Hold on! Are not the past and the present twins?

First Pronunciation Error
The Sound of the ED

Time is part of our routine, knowing at what time of day we did or will do something is so important to us that it is reflected in our languages, for that reason, the verbs that represent the actions we perform, also have a form in the past that tells us that the action has already happened. However, sometimes it can be difficult to learn how to pronounce these verbs correctly since they follow certain rules depending on which class they belong to.

Regular verbs

These verbs are usually the favorites, because it all end in 'ed'. Even so, the difficult thing is that the 'ed' can have three different pronunciations and learners usually believe that they are all pronounced the same.

What is the correct pronunciation?

1. If the verb ends with 't' or 'd' sounds: The ‘ed’ sounds like 'id'. For example, wanted.

2. If the verb ends with a voiced consonant sounds (b, g, j, l, m, n, r, v, z): The ‘ed’ sounds like ‘d’. For example, called.

3. If the verb ends with voiceless consonant sounds (f, k, p, sh, ch, s, x): The ‘ed’ sounds like ‘t’. For example, finished.
